Phosphate Accumulation in Plants: Signaling
ثبت نشده
چکیده
The availability of mineral nutrients is vital for plant growth and survival, and, as such, plants have evolved elaborate mechanisms to maximize the sequestering and uptake of scarce minerals. This is especially true in the case of phosphorus (P), which, when limiting, induces changes in root architecture to aid in the uptake of this mineral nutrient. How this limiting condition is sensed and propagated in the plant is of much interest. The elucidation of the signaling pathway is the focus of two articles, from independent labs, published in the July 2006 issue: Aung et al. (2006), ‘‘pho2, a Phosphate Overaccumulator, Is Caused by a Nonsense Mutation in a MicroRNA399 Target Gene’’; and Bari et al. (2006), ‘‘PHO2, MicroRNA399, and PHR1 Define a PhosphateSignaling Pathway in Plants.’’

OsPHR2 is involved in phosphate-starvation signaling and excessive phosphate accumulation in shoots of plants.
Previous research has demonstrated that AtPHR1 plays a central role in phosphate (Pi)-starvation signaling in Arabidopsis thaliana. In this work, two OsPHR genes from rice (Oryza sativa) were isolated and designated as OsPHR1 and OsPHR2 based on amino acid sequence homology to AtPHR1. Their functions in Pi signaling in rice were investigated using transgenic plants. Our results showed that both...
متن کاملStrigolactone Regulates Anthocyanin Accumulation, Acid Phosphatases Production and Plant Growth under Low Phosphate Condition in Arabidopsis
Phosphate is an essential macronutrient in plant growth and development; however, the concentration of inorganic phosphate (Pi) in soil is often suboptimal for crop performance. Accordingly, plants have developed physiological strategies to adapt to low Pi availability. Here, we report that typical Pi starvation responses in Arabidopsis are partially dependent on the strigolactone (SL) signalin...
متن کاملFungal Infection Alters Phosphate Level and Phosphatase Profiles in Arabidopsis
Phosphorus (P), in the form of phosphate ion (Pi), is a vital element contributing in biomolecule structures, metabolic reactions, signaling pathways and energy transfer within the living cells. The objective of the present study was to assess the influence of fungal infection on Pi metabolism in compare to the effects of phosphate stress in Arabidopsis. Quantification of total P contents showe...
